Proverbs 27:17 — “Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.”

Each week, we highlight a Kingdom Dynamic, a key insight into how God’s Kingdom works in real life …

Holy Provocation: Sharpened for This Time

The Body of Christ was never meant to be passive and polite. Yes, kindness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. But you can be kind, discerning, resolute, and impactful at the same time.

The Kingdom calls us to provoke one another—toward love and good deeds that we are meant to walk in (see Hebrews 10:24-25).

The Greek word for “provoke,” παροξύνω (paroxynō), carries the sense of stirring up, urging on, and exciting toward action.

Are you open to being a Kingdom provocateur? And to receiving provocation in love?

It’s not intentional offense, though some may be offended because they are challenged. It is a holy push toward leveling up.

Did you see the intensity of the United States men's national ice hockey team in their win over Canada in the Olympics? You can be assured that teammates did not coddle one another to experience that level of winning.

They sharpened each other. Excellence was demanded because the winning mission required it.

Proverbs 27:17 — “Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.”

Joel prophesied that God will pour out His Spirit, and sons and daughters will prophesy. Prophecy does more than speak words. It reveals the heart of God, the condition of the Church, and the pulse of society. It’s getting closer to God’s Point of View.

Too often our “Churchianity” drifts toward comfort, institutional self-protection, leadership ambition, or fear of disapproval.

Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.

Paul in Ephesians 4:15 NIV

We love the Church. Christ is building her. But love does not compromise. It sacrifices. And it calls upward. Real love has the highest good in view.

I can’t escape the thought that if we are to meet this moment, if we are to be faithful in this hour, we must harden ourselves and walk worthy of the calling of Christ. Together, as members of the Body of Christ.

The Spirit has been poured out. Your prophetic voice matters. Your courage matters. And your willingness to receive challenge matters too.

Call to Action: Ask the Holy Spirit to show you where your voice can awaken, encourage, and strengthen others. And where you need to receive correction or sharpening. Then act boldly.

“Enemy, Don’t Rejoice Too Soon”

“Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.” (Micah 7:8 NKJV)

Don’t get comfortable just yet, Enemy. The story isn’t over.

“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:2, NKJV)

There is chaos in the MACRO—wars, geopolitical realignment, pandemic aftershocks, economic instability, exposure, cultural upheaval. Nations are shifting. The Church is being refined.

There may also be chaos in the MICRO of your life. Of mine. Setbacks. Closed doors. Unseen battles.

🌄 But the dawning of Genesis reveals the pattern. The Spirit hovers. The decreed Word comes over chaos and brings kosmos—order, design, beauty.

You may fall. But you will rise. There may be chaos. But God speaks over you.

And the Church, disrupted and purified, will rise in greater clarity and power as we rise.

“Holy Spirit, hover over my personal world (insert an issue ______________ ). Father, decree your re-designing word. I receive it.”

Kaizen — continuous improvement.

Kaizen is a Japanese term often translated “continuous improvement.” It’s the refusal to settle into the plateau of arrested development. Rooted in Japan’s remarkably efficient manufacturing culture. The principle applies just as powerfully to music, athletics, writing, art, spiritual development, and more.

Colossians 3:10 (NASB): “… put on the new self who is being renewed (renovated) to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him.” Continuous renewal. The benchmark is Christ.

What about continuous refinement and development in Christ’s Kingdom? —Brian

Are You Eating to Fuel Your Body, Feed Your Pleasure, or Soothe Your Stress?

💭 Interesting. Nutrition psychology identifies three primary eating behaviors.

Homeostatic eating is biological hunger. Your body requires energy to think clearly, serve faithfully, work diligently, and carry out your calling. When blood sugar drops and true hunger signals rise, eating restores strength and capacity.

Hedonic eating is pleasure-driven. It responds to taste, enjoyment, and the brain’s reward system. In moderation, this is good. Celebration, enjoyment, and shared meals are gifts. Pleasure is not the enemy. Excess is. It’s possible to make your stomach your god Philippians 3:19.

Emotional eating attempts to regulate mood. Stress, boredom, loneliness, or fatigue drive the choice rather than real hunger. It becomes a substitute. Similar in pattern to smoking, excessive drinking, or other coping mechanisms. It soothes temporarily but does not strengthen. Go further: Emotional Eating and How to Stop It (HelpGuide.org)

Scripture reframes even this:
“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31, NKJV)

Brian—there is a theology of food. It becomes stewardship. Are we eating primarily for strength, longevity, and mission? My personal temptation is post 7 PM emotional eating. If I can win 7:00 to bed, I can easily win the day.
